ESL Summer Camp for Teens: New York Style
By Joanna Flagler, Marketing Communications Director
How do you see the Statue of Liberty, enjoy a beautiful New York State park, and go shopping in New York City all in one summer? Ask the 35 foreign exchange students who attended CCI’s Summer English Academy in New York State for 2 weeks this July. The summer camp offered intensive English language classes to students from a variety of countries including Cambodia, China, Italy, Japan and Vietnam. While the students came to the camp to improve their English skills, they also learned a lot about American culture and daily life and enjoyed sight-seeing in and around the New York City area.
The program consisted of 16 hours of English classes each week that focused on speaking, listening, grammar, writing, and reading. Students worked on class papers, an essay and a speech. Jim Doran, the program coordinator, wrote that some of the students had a great time talking about their perspectives on Freud. “Quite impressive for students that young!” Jim said.
Information on next year’s Summer English Academy will be available in September. Stay tuned!
