Work and Travel Program Assistant

Greenheart International is a non-profit committed to connecting people and planet to create a more peaceful and sustainable global community. Greenheart encompasses four main branches: CCI Greenheart, Greenheart Travel, Greenheart Shop, Greenheart Transforms, and two partners: Greenheart Music, and Greenheart Ibiza.

Within CCI Greenheart, the Work and Travel (WT) Department has J-1 designation by the U.S. Department of State to bring international university students to the United States on a cultural exchange program that allows them to work for a period of eight weeks to four months. CCI Greenheart’s WT program is dedicated to extending the mission of cultural understanding, environmental consciousness and world peace by connecting enthusiastic international students and American Host Organizations. As the only environmentally conscious J-1 visa sponsor, we pride ourselves on providing a quality experience while encouraging and enabling CCI Greenheart staff, participants, and Host Organizations to work together on projects that promote environmentalism and sustainability.

The Work and Travel Department is looking to hire temporary staff to provide support to its teams in the Operations and Services divisions.Program Assistants will work in either the Operations division or the Services division. The following job duties are examples of items Program Assistants may be responsible for, by division.

Operations:

  • Perform application review and job offer entry
  • Process DS-2019 Forms
  • Evaluate participant arrival information
  • Assist in verifying U.S. Host Organizations in a timely manner
  • Serve as in-country support to Self-Placed Program Participants
  • Serve as an U.S. Host Organization point of contact throughout the program season

Services

  • Interview Work & Travel participants on Skype to determine candidacy for program and English proficiency.
  • Recommend participants to host organizations, based on interests and qualifications.
  • Assist in preparations for local and overseas recruitment events
  • Service as in-country support to Direct Placement Program Participants

Some qualifications you should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university

Some physical requirements of the position:
While performing the duties of this job, you will be regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. You would be required the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and sit or stand as necessary. You would also be required to view a computer screen for long periods of time.

Regional Director position – J-1 High School Program

Type: Full-time

What we are looking for:
CCI Greenheart is seeking individuals with previous work experience as a Regional Manager, Director or similar level within a cultural exchange organization.CCI Greenheart has J-1 designation by the U.S. Department of State to bring international high school students to the United States through our Academic Year Program, to live with volunteer host families. The Regional Director position is a crucial leadership position within the AYP department, by supervising a team of 20-50 Local Coordinators, and 75-100+ exchange students every year.Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Build and supervise a team of Local Coordinators (independent contractors) to facilitate the placing of exchange students with volunteer host families, who will attend high school for a semester or full academic year.
  • Lead the regional team of field staff to ensure timely placement of all students assigned to the region, and that the proper documentation for the placement has been supplied through CCI’s database.
  • Create a development plan for the region, which includes a regional training meeting for LCs.
  • Maintain compliance with Department of State regulations by providing the necessary documentation via the database for all students placed in the region (proper host families, host family information forms and school permission forms, contact logs, etc)
  • Work closely with the staff in the Chicago office through regular email, phone, and skype communication.

Summer Group Coordinator – Short-term Groups and Homestays

CCI Greenheart seeks candidates in suburbs of major to mid-size cities to coordinate short-term Group Homestay Programs. We are open to programs throughout the US, but are actively seeking coordinators for summer 2017 groups in suburban areas (up to two hours from downtown) of the following cities:

ESL Student Recruiter – Greenheart English Camp

Greenheart English Camp is a three week ESL summer camp designed exclusively for international teenagers with at least 2 years of English experience. Recruiters refer and provide initial screening to potential applicants and can receive a cash incentive for each student who is accepted and attends the program.

Visibility and Marketing Internship

Department: Development Outreach Visibility & Engagement (DOVE)

This individual will gain an in-depth understanding of marketing and branding and the needs of a growing visibility department and international non-profit organization.Some things you might do as the Visibility Intern:

Design

  • Assist with the creation of style guide and design tutorials
  • Create graphics used for social media campaigns and promotional materials
  • Assist with utilizing Digital Asset Management of media files
  • Assisting with volunteer and event photography

Web

  • Advise departments on communication/branding strategies for websites, e-newsletters, social media
  • Media relations experience a plus for helping to create a press/advocacy kit for all of Greenheart
  • Use design knowledge to enable cohesion between print and web design strategy

Fundraising and Event Volunteer Intern

Type of Position: Internship

Hours: Flexible, 10-15 hours per week minimum and attendance at some Greenheart International events in Chicago

What we are looking for:
We are looking for a Volunteer Intern for the Development Department of Greenheart International that will assist with all initiatives of the Development Department in several capacities. The specific role of the Fundraising and Event Intern will relate to planning the Annual Fundraiser, prospecting individual and corporate donors, and facilitating with the donor CRM database. This individual will gain and in-depth understanding of fundraising and the needs of a growing development department.

Some things you might do as the Fundraising and Event Intern:
Fundraising

  • Research Chicago corporations and their stewardship goals
  • Develop marketing materials for donor solicitation

Communications

  • Assist with the CRM database for fundraising and outreach initiatives
  • Develop “Best Practices” for data entry and donor recognition
  • Record and analyze fundraising data, including the NEON website and greenheart.info webpage
  • Implement the monthly e-blast giving campaign
  • Monitor donations and their effect on specific giving campaigns
  • Create a template for development emails include solicitations, events, recognition, and taxes

Events

  • Assist with the Greenheart Annual Fundraiser logistical planning
  • Research and solicit corporate sponsorships and in-kind donations
  • Ensure all donations are recorded into NEON

Greenheart Travel Internship for Teach English & Work Abroad Programs

Type: Unpaid internship, temporary, 12 weeks with possible extension for an additional 10 weeks

Part-Time Volunteer Shop Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Greets customers in a friendly manner, educating all new customers about our mission to support Fair Trade, eco-friendly, and local social mission based enterprises.
  • Learns about and offers additional commentary to customers as needed on the stories and ethics behind certain products.
  • Rings up sales at the register (if comfortable learning) and/or helps to wrap and package purchases for customers.
  • Helps to restock products and supplies and re-merchandise products on the floor as needed.
  • Help set up/break down displays, talk to customers, and make sales at offsite events (sales events away from the store).
  • May help with other duties such as counting and labeling products and cleaning.

Desired Qualities:

  • Either prior knowledge of, and education in, Fair Trade/sustainability or a strong desire to learn more.
  • A passion for improving the working conditions of people around the world, preserving the environment, and educating people about the stories behind the products they purchase.
  • Some retail experience a plus, but not necessary. Volunteers must be willing and open to learn the basics of retail in a non-profit.
  • Able to climb stairs to the basement to restock products.

Time Commitment:

  • Preferred commitment of at least 3 months of volunteering at Greenheart Shop
  • At least 2-4 shifts per month of 4 hours each, with flexibility for school/work schedules
  • Volunteer candidates will be scheduled as needed based on their availability and the shop’s need, generally during store hours of Mon. – Fri. 11am – 7pm, Sat. 10am-6pm, and Sun. 10am-5pm. We are especially in need of volunteer assistance at our offsite sales events, which usually occur on weekends at churches or festivals around the city of Chicago.

Spring 2017 Marketing and Outreach Intern

The Work and Travel department within CCI Greenheart is dedicated to providing cultural exchange opportunities for international university students who come to the United States to work entry-level position during their academic break. Through its partnerships with several host organizations and international agencies, Work and Travel is able to sponsor over 6,000 international students each year.

Duties:
Responsibilities of the Intern may include, but are not limited to:

  • Research community information and track testimonials
  • Update Job Fair Handbooks as well as other marketing materials
  • Assist in updating the website
  • Assist with social media platforms to ensure they are up-to-date and on trend
  • Research methods of interacting with stakeholders on social media outlets (i.e.: Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Snapchat)
  • Track consumer behavior through Google Analytics and mass emails
  • Edit and draft blog postings to WordPress site
  • Assist in updating and photo gallery
  • Assist with the execution and follow up for various trips
  • Assist with any urgent and unexpected items
  • Perform an occasional data entry

Qualifications:
