Live, work and play Down Under! Greenheart Travel’s Work in Australia program offers a working holiday visa for travelers who would like the opportunity to travel and work in a truly unique country. As a Work in Australia participant you have the opportunity to find casual, temporary work in a variety of industries from tourism, hospitality, food service and retail, to resorts and fruit picking. Greenheart Travel’s partner has professional relationships with trusted employers around Australia who pay fair wages and alert them whenever they have positions available, making our participants first in line for the job!

Arrival Orientation
Upon arrival in Sydney, you will be met by Greenheart Travel’s experienced and knowledgeable in-country partner and taken to a clean and well-kept hostel where a welcome packet will be waiting for you. The welcome
packet includes information about the orientation, job placement assistance as well as a friendly face.
During the orientation you will learn about:
- Finding a job in Australia
- Opening a bank account
- How to file taxes in Australia
- The best places to travel around Australia and how to get there
- Finding short or long term accommodation
- Everything you need to know about Australians and their culture
Eligibility Requirements
- U.S. citizen (holding a U.S. passport valid for the length of your expected stay in Australia). Citizens from Ireland, the UK and Canada may also participate through a different visa program with similar structure and requirements. Ask us for details.
- Aged 18-30 (inclusive – you must apply for your visa before turning 31 according to Australian time)
- Must be physically present in the U.S. for the visa application process
- Must have a high school diploma
- Must have a minimum of AUD$5,000 (approximately $4,200 US) available funds for their maintenance during the eriod of stay in Australia ( the exact amount required depends on the duration of stay and your travel plans)
- Must have emergency accident/health insurance (can be purchased directly through Greenheart Travel for $49/month or $12/week- ask us for details)

Employment Services
With the support of our in-country partner, Greenheart Travel participants will have a variety of ways to search and secure a position in Australia. Services include:
Introduction to finding work: an overview of the basic types of jobs that are available around the country, required skills, resources to find a job and listings of current jobs available for immediate start around the country.
Job placement database: Greenheart Travel’s in-country partner runs an organized recruitment service with hundreds of businesses in their database looking for short-term, casual work. Their job service team will assess your skills and experience and match you with available positions.
Job alert service: Once you are registered with the recruitment service database, you will begin receiving job alerts that fit your preferences and skills, via e-mail, text message or phone, so that you can get information about newly available jobs wherever you are in Australia.
Weekly newsletters: Unique and exciting job opportunities that come from local knowledge are emailed to participants weekly.
Well-equipped lounge for Work in Australia participants: A home base for you in Sydney, this is where you can find out about job opportunities, get assistance from an on-site travel agent with booking travel, get advice and information, use the internet for free, make friends and socialize.
Mail holding/forwarding: Have your mail and packages sent to our partner in Australia and they will forward it to you where you are in Oz, or hold it for you to pick up when you come back through Sydney.
Will I earn enough to support myself in Australia?
As a general rule of thumb, most Work & Holiday participants can expect to need about 50AUD (about $42 USD) per day for accommodation, food, transport and socializing. The average wages for different types of work are(1AUD= .85USD):
- Factory/labor work: $17-20 AUD/hour ($14.50 - $17 USD)
- Hospitality: $18-25 AUD/hour ($15 - $25 USD)
- Office Work: $19–25 AUD/hour ($16 - $21 USD)
- Fruit picking $15-17 AUD/hour ($12.75-$14.50 USD)
- Resorts $14-17 AUD/hour ($12 – $14.50 USD)
Additional perks: Keep in mind that if you work on a farm or at a resort, housing is often included or cheaper,
and food is sometimes provided.
Program Duration
Participants on the Work & Holiday Visa are allowed to remain in Australia for a total of up to 12 months. The visa allows you to leave and re-enter Australia as many times as you like during this time, so you’re free to take advantage of your year abroad to travel!
