Teach in Fujian Province, China

Are you just graduating, or simply want to take a year off to explore another country? Are you interested in learning to speak Mandarin Chinese, or just learning about Chinese culture?

Teaching English in Fujian, China is a great opportunity for native English speakers to work their way to another country, rather than paying their way:

• There is no program fee for licensed teachers. Other applicants pay a $150 application fee.

Fujian Province, China is a beautiful, mountainous region that boasts a subtropical climate and warm winters. Fujian Province is one of the wealthiest provinces in the PRC and is conveniently located directly west of Taiwan, south of Shanghai, and just north of Hong Kong. Major cities include Zhangzhou, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Putian, and Quanzhou.

Although most placements are in the urban areas of Fujian Province, some rural placements are also available.

What if I don't speak Mandarin?

No problem - Chinese language skills are not required, although it is a fantastic opportunity to learn for those interested in picking up Mandarin language skills.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Native English speaker
• BA/BS degree in any field
• Between the ages of 20 and 55
• TEFL or TESOL Certificate OR 2 years full time work experience. (Greenheart Travel offers a discounted course. Read about our TEFL Certificate program.)
• Citizenship in Canada, USA, UK

Program Length

1 year (52 weeks) beginning in September, 2010

Teacher Responsibilities

Responsibilities and working hours vary depending on the specific positions. Positions include public school posts, private school posts, and some university positions. All schools are screened and individual contracts of positions offered to native English-speaking instructors will be presented to applicants for their review, and will outline working hours, conditions, and responsibilities. The work week averages 40 hours per week but actual teaching hours will vary from school to school.
