Orphanage and School in Ashanti (Ages 18+)

Project Details
When the school and orphanage were founded over 10 years ago, the purpose was to bring together some of the most needy orphans in the community and provide them not only with a home but also with basic educational tools. Once the groundwork was laid the students began to advance to higher levels of education and acquired further skills to help them build a better future.

Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers are needed to assist in teaching various classes, helping to take care of younger orphans by dressing and bathing them, organizing games and activities, playing with pre-school children, and bringing creative suggestions and projects to improve the site.

Location
The project is located in the district of Offinso in the central region of Ashanti. Volunteers will receive a thorough orientation for a few days in the capital city of Accra upon arrival in Ghana.

Accommodations and Meals
Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. All meals with your host family are included in your stay.

Transportation and Travel Arrangements
All travel arrangements must be booked according to Greenheart Travel instructions. Booking travel is your responsibility, but we are more than happy to help you as needed. A volunteer coordinator will meet you at the airport in Accra upon your arrival and arrange your transportation to your host family.
Depending on the location of your host family you may be within walking distance to your work site or a short bus ride away. Greenheart Travel does not cover any bus fare used in transit to the work site.

Local Support
Greenheart Travel always provides you with a thorough network of support before departure and during your time abroad. You will be provided with pre-departure orientation materials that will walk you through every step of your program. Your local coordinator, host family, and volunteer site supervisor are more than happy to address questions or difficulties that you may have at anytime during your program.

Dates, Duration and Application Deadlines
Volunteers may join the program at any time throughout the year and stay for four to eight weeks. Applications are due eight weeks before your intended departure date.

Requirements
Experience or education in counseling, teaching and/or childcare is helpful, but not required.
