Teach in Thailand

Teach in Thailand
Experience Thai culture as a native! Live in Thailand as a local resident for a semester or a year while you teach English. Teachers enjoy rent free accommodations and a salary that is enough to cover both their living expenses in Thailand, plus a little extra for travel and sightseeing during time off or after the program. If you teach for a full academic year (10 months) at the same institution, you'll receive reimbursement for your plane ticket home.
Teaching placements are available in local schools in rural and urban communities throughout Thailand. Whether you are thinking about pursuing a teaching career or just want to get to know a Thai community by becoming a part of it, teaching English in Thailand is a unique cultural immersion experience you will never forget.

5 month program: $1,800
10 month program: $2,350

- U.S. citizen
- Teaching experience is highly preferred, although not required
Teacher responsibilities
Your role as a Teach in Thailand participant will be to act as lead teacher for the classroom assigned to you. You will plan and lead activities designed to develop your eager students' conversation abilities in English. A one-week orientation in Bangkok upon arrival will prepare you for the challenges of running a classroom, with TEFL workshops, teaching tips and cross-cultural training. A staff member of your school will also be assigned to you as a coordinator and will provide support to you through answering your day-to-day questions and offering guidance and advice when needed.
Teachers should expect to work 35-40 hours a week. This includes actual classroom time of about 22 classes per week, plus time for lesson planning, faculty meetings and possibly supervising extracurricular and sports activities.
Placements
Teaching placements are available in urban and rural locations throughout Thailand. Most placements are in secondary schools (grades 7-12), though a few primary school placements may be available. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences for a particular location and/or level, but availability of placements depends on the need in Thai schools at the time you apply. More and more Thai schools are giving preference to teachers with previous teaching experience, so if you've taught before you will most likely be placed more quickly and easily than if you have no prior teaching experience.
Salary, Accommodation and Meals
Your school will provide a minimum salary of about 16,000 baht, or about $500 per month. The amount may not seem high by U.S. standards, but is actually quite generous by Thai standards, as the cost of living in Thailand is quite low.
You will receive rent-free accommodation in a private or shared apartment with your own bedroom. Your salary is intended to cover the cost of your meals. Food is generally quite inexpensive in Thailand.
Orientation
All participants will receive a week-long orientation upon arrival in Bangkok. The orientation covers teacher training, Thai language and culture, a Q and A session with former teachers, and sightseeing in Bangkok and Kanchanaburi, including elephant trekking and bamboo rafting. Meals and lodging are provided during the orientation.
Transportation to the orientation venue is provided for participants who arrive during the designated arrival time. We strongly recommend that you wait to book your flight until you have received your placement.
