The best way to learn Japanese is by studying it in Japan. Greenheart Travel's langauge school is located in Tokyo. Modern and vibrant, Tokyo has a lot to offer, from peaceful and serene shrines and temples to bright neon streets buzzing with people and excitement. At night, the city lights up with a pulsing nightlife. The older neighborhoods of Tokyo feature quaint cobbled streets and traditional, sculpted gardens.
The School and Class Schedule
The language school program in Tokyo provides four weeks of intensive Japanese language study. The school is located in the heart of Tokyo, right near the Tokyo Tower, and within walking distance of museums, shops and other exciting attractions.
Teaching Methods
Teaching methods are centered on oral communication. Using videos, computers and a lot of interactive materials students will learn to communicate effectively in Japanese at a much more rapid pace. At the end of the 4 weeks each student will give a presentation on a theme of their choice in order to practice everything they have learned.
Accommodations and Meals
Participants stay with carefully screened host families in Tokyo and be provided two meals per day. Host families represent all walks of life. Your family may be a couple with or without children, a single parent, or a single person interested in other cultures. Greenheart Travel works together with the Language School to find the best match for you according to your unique profile and interests. The Language School maintains a network of trained local coordinators who select, screen, and monitor host families to help make a placement that is appropriate for each student. commuting distance of 60 to 90 minutes from the school.
Dates for 2010
The program takes place four times per year with each session lasting four weeks.
Spring: May 9 - June 6, 2010 (application deadline: March 11)
Summer: July 4 - August 1, 2010 (application deadline: May 6)
Fall: October 17 - November 14, 2010 (application deadline August 19)
Winter: January 10, 2011 - February 6, 2011 (application deadline November 11, 2010)
Arrival and Orientation
Participants will stay in a hotel in Tokyo for one night on the day of arrival. An orientation will take place the following morning at the hotel. You will then make your way to meet your new host family a their home!
Travel Arrangements and Transportation
All travel arrangements must be booked according to Greenheart Travel instructions. Booking travel is your responsibility, but we are more than happy to help you as needed. You will fly into the airport in Tokyo and either take public transportation or a taxi to a hotel that you. Greenheart Travel can also arrange for a representative to meet you at the airport and accompany you to your host family's home for an additional fee.
Local Support
Greenheart Travel always provides you with a thorough network of support before departure and during your time abroad. You will be provided with pre-departure orientation materials that will walk you through every step of your program. Your host family and Language School office are more than happy to address questions or difficulties that you have at any time during their program.
Requirements
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 50, and must be able to read and write Hiragana and Katakana.
Typical Activities and Excursions
There are no planned activities for this program, but there are lessons that are focused on learning about the Japanese culture. These lessons could included tasting typical Japanese cuisine, listening to traditional music, or studying other cultural traditions unique to Japan.
