Australia is rapidly emerging as a market leader in many industries, so the experience you gain through an internship there will benefit you wherever your future career path takes you.
LocationsYou will be placed with an internship in your chosen field of study. You can choose among placements in two locations:
Melbourne: Melbourne is a relaxed and very culturally diverse city, graced with parks and gardens and a bustling boardwalk lined with outdoor restaurants and cafes.
Sydney: A world class city and commercial hub, Sydney is an ideal place to gain international business experience, with a breathtaking harbor and world class restaurants, museums and entertainment.
Internship fieldsInternships are available in most fields. The most popular fields of interest are Marketing, Human Resources, Travel and Tourism, and Web Design – however there are many more options for internships in Melbourne and Sydney. Contact us to confirm availability in your chosen area.
AccommodationRoom and half board (2 meals per day) is provided with host families. Host families represent all walks of life, just like families from your home country. Your family may be a couple with or without children, a single parent, or a single person interested in other cultures. Greenheart Travel works together with our partner office in Australia to find the best match for you according to your unique profile and interests. Our partner office maintains a network of trained local coordinators who select, screen, and monitor host families to help make a placement that is appropriate for you. Social Life and TravelThe staff in Australia organizes weekly social activities for interns to help you meet people and make friends. If you’re interning in Sydney, you can also take advantage of organized weekend trips.
Although some independent travel is encouraged on your time off, your internship is your first priority and asking for additional time off from your employers is not permitted.
University CreditGreenheart Travel does not give automatic credit for internships, and we cannot guarantee that your school will accept your internship for credit. You should discuss this with your advisor to find out what they require in order to receive any credit. We will do our best to provide you with the information you may need, but it is your responsibility gather any necessary materials.
Local SupportInterns should feel free to discuss any questions or concerns with their employers and local coordinators who will remain a source of support for the duration of your internship. Should a problem arise, the local coordinator and 24 hour emergency staff are always available to you.
Dates Duration and Application DeadlinesUsually, interns arrive on Thursdays in order to participate in the weekly orientation sessions that take place on Fridays. There is a two month minimum commitment for this program. Applications are due at least 12 weeks before your intended departure date.
RequirementsYou must be at least 20 years of age and be able to commit at least 1 month. Ideal applicants will have at least 1 year of college credit that relates to their field of interest and experience working in a professional setting.
