Internships in London (Ages 20+)

Intern_UK_Content

You won’t find a more stimulating place to do an internship than London, the former capital of one of the greatest empires the world has ever known. University students and recent grads can gain a first rate practical education in their field while trying out the lifestyle of a modern Londoner.

Fields of Interest
The most popular fields of interest requested by interns are:

• General Business
• Travel/Tourism
• Accounting/Finance
• Social Services

Other types of internships may be arranged upon request. Once you are accepted to the program, we will find a meaningful internship within the field you requested. Greenheart Travel cannot guarantee the undertaking of specific responsibilities, such as experience with particular computer programs or the chance to have input on a certain type of project. Our goal is to provide you with an internship relating to your field of choice where you will be able to assist with special projects and that will give you real-world, professional experience. You should also expect to perform some administrative tasks and general office work.

Location, Dates, and Duration
Interns are placed in or around the metropolitan city of London. Placements may be closer to the city center or further away in a surrounding suburb. Our main goal is seeking out a desirable internship where public transportation is accessible. Many people live or work in London, and traffic, while not as congested as other major cities, can be a bit difficult at times. You should expect your commute to be anywhere from 20 minutes up to 1 hour.

You may choose when your internship begins and ends, making it convenient to fit with your individual schedule. However, we always ask that you start your internship on a Monday and end on a Friday, so that it coincides with the typical work week. This means that you should arrive to your host family's house on a Sunday and depart on a Saturday. Internships last from 1-6 months.

Accommodation and Meals
Host families represent all walks of life, just like families from your home country. Your family may be a couple with or without children, a single parent, or a single person interested in other cultures. Greenheart Travel works together with our partner office in the UK to find the best match for you according to your unique profile and interests. Our partner office maintains a network of trained local coordinators who select, screen, and monitor host families to help make a placement that is appropriate for you.

Within each family you will experience a different dynamic, but they are all motivated by the idea of making cross-cultural friendships. They will be eager to learn about you and your culture and are excited to teach you about their own. Your host family placement will include half board (2 meals per day).

As an intern you can also choose to arrange your own housing, and we will deduct this from the cost of the program. If you choose this option, you are responsible for searching out and securing a place to stay for the duration of your program.

Social Life
Visiting Big Ben, Buckingham Palace or walking through the Tower of London are just a few of the popular sites to see, and our partner offices are happy to put you in touch with other interns so you have new friends with whom to take it all in. Your host family will also be a great source of information regarding local events, tasty restaurants and fun pubs with spectacular atmosphere. If you're not craving any shepherd's pie, dining at one of the many Indian restaurants is a great alternative!

University Credit
Greenheart Travel does not give automatic credit for internships, and we cannot guarantee that your school will accept your internship for credit. You should discuss this with your adviser to find out what they require in order to receive any credit. We will do our best to provide you with the information you may need, but it is your responsibility gather any necessary materials.

Local Support
Interns should feel free to discuss any questions or concerns with their employers and local coordinators who will remain a source of support for the duration of your internship. Should a problem arise, the local coordinator and 24 hour emergency staff are always available to you.

Requirements
Participants must be at least 20 years of age and be eligible for the BUNAC card. Participants must be interviewed upon arrival to ensure the best match for their field of interest. The interview is the last step in the process where work schedules and intern responsibilities will be discussed. Provided that everyone is in agreement, the internship will be officially confirmed.
