You should also expect to perform some administrative tasks and general office work.
Accommodations and Meals
The family is central to life here, and you will find large, extended families. Host families represent all walks of life, just like families from your home country. Your family may be a couple with or without children, a single parent, or a single person interested in other cultures. Greenheart Travel works together with our partner office in Ireland to find the best match for you according to your unique profile and interests. Our partner office maintains a network of trained local coordinators who select, screen, and monitor host families to help make a placement that is appropriate for you. .jpg)
Within each family you will experience a different dynamic, but they are all motivated by the idea of making cross-cultural friendships. They will be eager to learn about you and your culture and are excited to teach you about their own. Your host family placement will include half board (2 meals per day).
As an intern you can also choose to arrange your own housing, and we will deduct this from the cost of the program. If you choose this option, you are responsible for searching out and securing a place to stay for the duration of your program.
Location, Dates, and Duration
Interns are placed in the exciting, fast-growing city of Dublin, an international business center and hub of Irish culture. Placements may be closer to the city center or further away in a surrounding suburb. Our main goal is seeking out a desirable internship where public transportation is accessible. Many people live or work in Dublin, and traffic, while not as congested as other major cities, can be a bit difficult at times. You should expect your commute to be anywhere from 20 minutes up to 1 hour.
You may choose when your internship begins and ends, making it convenient to fit with your individual schedule. However, we always ask that you start your internship on a Monday and end on a Friday, so that it coincides with the typical work week. This means that you should arrive to your host family's house on a Sunday and depart on a Saturday. Internships last from 1-3 months.
Social Life
Dublin, being such a fun and lively city, lends itself to a lot of socializing and meeting new people with ease. Our partner offices are happy to put you in touch with other interns in the city, as well as guide you on where to go and what to do in your free time. Your host family will also be a great source of information regarding local events, tasty restaurants and fun pubs with spectacular atmosphere. One of the fan favorites is touring the Guinness Factory, where you can gaze out the top floor windows for an amazing view of the city!
University Credit
Greenheart Travel does not give automatic credit for internships, and we cannot guarantee that your school will accept your internship for credit. You should discuss this with your advisor to find out what they require in order to receive any credit. We will do our best to provide you with the information you may need, but it is your responsibility gather any necessary materials.
Local Support
Interns should feel free to discuss any questions or concerns with their employers and local coordinators who will remain a source of support for the duration of your internship. Should a problem arise, the local coordinator and 24 hour emergency staff are always available to you.
Requirements
You must be at least 20 years of age and be able to commit at least 1 month. Ideal applicants will have at least 1 year of college credit that relates to their field of interest and experience working in a professional setting. Other desirable characteristics include: flexibility, punctuality, curiosity, motivation, dedication and a good sense of humor.
