The Center for Cultural Interchange and Greenheart Travel strive to provide interesting and affordable opportunities to all participants interested in cultural exchange. We are happy to offer scholarships designed to encourage reciprocal exchange, academic excellence and the discovery of new destinations worldwide.
High School Abroad Scholarships
Volunteer Abroad Scholarships
In addition to the scholarships we offer, look into other funding sources by researching scholarships, financial aid, or consider raising some of the funds yourself. Our fundraising guide will give you some ideas to start from.
Description:
Each year the Center for Cultural Interchange will grant two scholarships in the amount of $500 each for High School Abroad Programs. One of the scholarships will be awarded for fall departures, and one will be awarded for spring departures.
Deadlines:
March 1 is the deadline for the fall scholarship
August 1 is the deadline for the spring scholarship
Restrictions:
Applicants must be applying to participate in a semester-length (5-6 months) or academic year-length program.
Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the regular requirements for participation, and submitting a complete application, successful scholarship candidates must also submit an essay, which describes the following:
- Why do you want to study abroad?
- What do you expect to gain from the experience?
- Why do you believe that you will be a successful participant in this program?
- How do you expect the experience to impact your future?
A scholarship recipient will be selected based on the quality of their application and essay.
Applicants who are not awarded a scholarship, but who are otherwise qualified, will be welcome to participate in the High School Abroad Program for the standard program fee.

High School Abroad Early Bird Discount
Apply early! High School applications received at least 7 months before departure date entitle you to a $300 discount of program fees! Deadlines: January 2 for Fall semester enrollment; June 1 for Spring Semester enrollment.
Description: Each year, Greenheart Travel awards two scholarships in the amount of $250 each toward Greenheart Volunteer Abroad programs.
Restrictions: Volunteers must be applying to participate in an individual Volunteer Abroad program.
Qualifications: In addition to meeting the regular requirements for participation and submitting a complete application, successful scholarship participants must also submit an essay which describes the following:
- Why do you want to participate in this volunteer program?
- How do you believe you will be able to positively impact the community and the project?
- How do you expect the experience to affect your life?
Deadlines:
May 15: Programs with start dates from June 1 to August 31
August 15: Programs with start dates from September 1 to December 31
Scholarship recipients are expected to journal about their experiences on the Greenheart Travel website blog and submit photographs of their experience.
Host Family Circle Scholarships
Our American host families are deeply generous people who open their hearts and homes to international students and adults. We encourage host family members to expand their own cultural experience by taking advantage of the
Host Family Circle Scholarships, a program that provides scholarships on Greenheart Travel Programs to host family members.
