Male Camp Greenheart Counselor

Type: Temporary
Start Date/End Date:June 15-21, 2014 (overnight at camp with an additional 8 hours of meeting time prior to camp)
Hours:Staying at the camp from June 15-21 with an additional 8 hours of meeting time prior to camp (meeting schedule TBD)
Location:8 hours of meeting time prior to Camp Greenheart will be at the Greenheart International offices at 712 N Wells St, Chicago, IL 60654. From June 15-21 the counselor will be staying at Camp MacLean at 31401 Durand Ave, Burlington, WI 53105. Transportation from Chicago to the camp will be provided.

Duties:  

Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The Counselor is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers through their Camp Greenheart experience. The counselor will work with Greenheart International staff before and during the camp to create the flow and implement the activities.

Qualifications:  

  • Must be male (we already have the female counselors)
  • Must have experience working with middle school aged children
  • Must be at least 21 years or older
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must be able to be physically active and perform all Camp Counselor duties

Project Coordinator

Type: Full time
Start: ASAP
Hours: 40 hours
Location: 712 N. Wells, Chicago, IL 60654

Duties: 

  • Manage and oversee systems development for 2 departments within CCI Greenheart
  • Logic-based interaction: Act as a liaison between staff, clients and developers from our web development vendor
  • Team-based project management: manage budget while organizing and prioritzing requests in a collaborative manner
  • Assist with database system rewrite: Opportunity to create, maintain, test and evaluate Big Data solutions and architecture
  • System rewrite: managing the product lifecycle from inception, through planning, development, quality assurance testing, documentation and rollout. Database is used for both internal business support and external customer interaction
  • Analysis of feature requests and bug issues as well as collaboration with program staff (subject matter experts) to formulate proposed solutions in our online system (which incorporates stakeholder accounts and administrative tools)
  • Potential responsibility: Assist with maintenance of reports from our production database, using SQL Server Report Builder, monitoring of data integrity, and other technical tasks as assigned or needed
  • Encouraged: Recognize opportunities for technology improvements and make suggesitons to enhance and streamline process and procedures

Qualifications:
Required skills:

  • Customer service and technical skills; clear communicator comfortable communicating with all levels of the organization
  • Project Management Experience: be able to give and take direction, work collaboratively
  • Interest in web development and business analysis
  • Be detail-oriented and have a proven ability to juggle and effectively prioritize multiple tasks while keeping an eye on the bottom line
  • Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving and analytical skills

Preferred skills:

  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, Javascript, server-side scripting, and an overall interest and experience with web technology and the HTTP protocol
  • Basic knowledge of SQL (T-SQL) and a solid understanding of the technologies and protocols employed in modern web development; Experience using SSRS and/or SQL Server Report Builder
  • Experience or comfort using XML
  • Knowledge and experience in exchange programs, or of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
  • Experience interacting with Subject Matter Experts to formulate cost-effective solutions in web development environments

Compensation: $35K or commensurate with experience.

Regional Manager Position at CCI Greenheart

Type: Part time salary employee
Hours: 20+ hours/week
Location: Wisconsin - work from home

CCI Greenheart is seeking individuals with previous work experience as a, Area Coordinator, Regional Manager/Director or similar level within a cultural exchange organization. Applicants without prior experience in the industry will not be considered. (If that is the case, please consider CCI Greenheart’s independent contractor Local Coordinator position.)

The Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI) has J-1 designation by the U.S. Department of State to bring international high school students to the United States through our Academic Year Program, to live with volunteer host families. The Regional Manager position is a crucial leadership position within the AYP department, by supervising a team of 10-20 Local Coordinators, and 25-50+ exchange students every year.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

  • Build and supervise a team of Local Coordinators (independent contractors) to facilitate the placing of exchange students with volunteer host families, who will attend high school for a semester or full academic year.
  • Lead the regional team of field staff to ensure timely placement of all students assigned to the region, and that the proper documentation for the placement has been supplied through CCI’s database.
  • Create a development plan for the region, which includes a regional training meeting for LCs.
  • Maintain compliance with Department of State regulations by providing the necessary documentation via the database for all students placed in the region (proper host families, host family information forms and school permission forms, contact logs, etc)
  • Work closely with the staff in the Chicago office through regular email, phone, and skype communication.

Skills: 

  • Must have previous experience working with a cultural exchange organization (J-1 international high school students)
  • Ability to lead and guide a dispersed team
  • Self-motivated, creative and organized
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outgoing personality and enthusiasm for international exchange
  • Excellent computer skills with competence in Microsoft Office Suite, eager to learn and use new technology, previous database skills a plus

Summer Group Coordinator (Short-term Groups and Homestay)

Type of Position: Temporary, part-time

CCI Greenheart seeks candidates in suburbs of major to mid-size cities to coordinate short-term Group Homestay Programs. We are actively seeking coordinators for summer 2014 groups in suburbs of the following cities:

On the Group Homestay Program, approximately 10 - 20 international high school students come to the United States for a two to four week period with the goal of improving their English and getting to know American culture. Most groups arrive in summer but planning and recruitment of host families begins 4+ months prior. ESL Student Recruiter

The Summer English Academy (SEA) is a unique, three week, summer ESL camp designed exclusively for teenagers, with locations in New York State and Northern California. Student recruiters refer and provide initial screening to potential applicants. Recruiters receive a cash incentive for each student who is accepted and attends the program.

INTERNSHIPS & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES  

Work and Travel Volunteer Intern

Type: Unpaid, internship position
Time Frame: 10-12 weeks with possible extension for an additional 10-12 weeks
Hours: Minimum 12 hours per week with flexible hours available Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm

Work and Travel (WT) Department Description: CCI Greenheart has J-1 designation by the U.S. Department of State to bring international university students to the United States through our Work and Travel Program for seasonal work experience. The WT Volunteer Intern will assist management staff specifically with developing CCI’s Greenheart initiative within the Work and Travel Program and also with day to day program operations. Greenheart is CCI's environmental and social initiative that connects people and planet through environmentalism, fair trade, social transformation, and cross cultural understanding.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Assist Work Programs staff in developing the cultural component of the program. Responsibilities in this area may include analyzing the cultural activities of participants, researching community information for various offerings, such as festivals, English classes, historical sites, etc.
  • Assist with developing the Greenheart Club that allows participants to enter volunteer hours within their communities. Projects may include creating program materials and assisting with participant outreach.
  • Assisting with the preparation, execution and follow up for departmental events (Going Greenheart Tour, Greenheart Projects, conferences, etc).
  • Keeping the department current using social media and research.
  • Assisting staff with answering and transferring phone calls, as well as other administrative duties, as needed.

Skills:  

  • Bachelor's degree or degree in process

  • Exceptional ability to multi-task, pay attention to detail and to work in an exhilarating and fast-paced environment

Career Advancement Program International Outreach and Alumni Relations Internship

Purpose of the Internship 

We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic individual to help tell the stories of CCI Greenheart’s current and past exchange program participants.

Our Career Advancement Program offers international university students, recent graduates, and young professionals the opportunity to become an Intern or Trainee with a U.S. business. These structured and guided work-based learning programs promote cultural immersion in the United States and professional development in the intern's or trainee's specific academic or occupational field.

This J-1 visa program is part of U.S. public diplomacy initiatives, and is overseen by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Internship Description 

  • Develop international alumni network for the Career Advancement Program, which brings foreign nationals to the U.S. for professional internships/training programs
  • Leverage social networks (particularly LinkedIn and Facebook) to strengthen relationships with exchange program alumni
  • Create international outreach and promotion efforts to engage program alumni in volunteerism and professional development in their home countries
  • Draft compelling blogs, newsletters, and alumni resources to be distributed to alumni and current participants
  • Assist with other aspects of the program as assigned

Required Skills 

  • Outgoing personality and experience with and enthusiasm for cultural exchange, international travel, and volunteerism
  • Demonstrated creativity and documented immersion in the social media tool set, including but not limited to: YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, & WordPress

  • Assist Program Associate with branding and developing a marketing campaign for Alumni Program and managing LinkedIn “CAP Alumni Group”
  • Researching and reporting on new social media trends and services
  • Help create and distribute scheduled newsletters
Required Skills

Marketing Intern

Greenheart Shop is a fast growing fair trade and eco-friendly nonprofit located in Chicago. We have a brick & mortar, an online store and a wholesale line. We are seeking a marketing intern to help us grow our online store. You will work with the Marketing & Ecommerce Manager to write product descriptions and blog posts and assist with eblasts, merchandising and social media. You will also gain exposure to marketing for a brick & mortar and wholesale line. This is a great way to get hands-on experience in the growing ethical retail & wholesale industry. This is an unpaid position.

Desired Skills and Experience 

  • Strong marketing writing skills
  • Detailed oriented
  • Knowledge of blogs, social media, websites
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree with an interest in marketing, sales or public relations
  • Ability to work at our office 2-3 days/week
  • Graphic design experience is a plus, but not necessary

Greenheart Transforms Social Media Intern

Purpose of the Internship 

We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic individual to help maintain our social media outlets, research topics for our newsletter, recruit local change-makers for interviews, and conduct research for future events.

Greenheart Transforms assists people in reaching their highest potential through events, workshops and retreats aimed at personal and social transformation.

Internship Description 

  • Leverage social media outlets (particularly Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) to strengthen relationships with past and potential event participants
