Event and Marketing Coordinator - Academic Year Program

Type: 20+ hours/week at $14/hour
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Flexible within M-F 9-5:30
Location: 712 N Wells St, Chicago, IL

Are you a people-person with a knack for planning events? Are you a good project manager, able to listen and understand needs of others?

The CCI Greenheart Academic Year Program is seeking an engaging and energetic person to manage the event planning and marketing processes for the department. This role is initially part-time but has a possibility to develop into a full-time, salaried position.

Duties: 

  • Event planning role:
    • Coordinate conferences and workshops including attendee hotel and flight accommodation, select menus, arrange for audio-visual equipment, transportation for participants, signage, displays, special needs requirements, etc.M
    • Track event budgets, expenses, invoices and payments
  • Marketing role:
    • Act as a project manager by surveying field network, and working with Greenheart design team (graphic designer, web developer, marketing Director) to facilitate marketing needs.
    • Outreach to 3rd party websites as needed (Yelp.com, Volunteermatch.com, etc)
    • Order materials from marketing department when running low
    • Attend bi-weekly Marketing meeting
  • General administrative duties:
    • Update website
    • Mail packets
    • Track host family referrals

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Marketing and/or event planning experience preferred
  • Excellent computer skills with competence in Microsoft Office Suite, eager to learn and use new technology, previous database skills a plus
  • Creative and outside-of-the-box thinking, self-directed and flexible
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to interact within groups of all ages, nationalities, ethnicities and backgrounds
  • Outgoing, flexible personality with a willingness to learn; applicant should be a proactive, diligent, positive & creative self-starter; possess great work ethic and excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine desire to contribute to an organization that promotes cultural exchange and environmental
  • consciousness.

On-campus Activity Coordinator - ESL and American Culture Programs

Type: Contract
*Locations: NY July 12 – July 25, 2014
* This position requires the teacher to live on campus for a 2 week period

The ESL and American Culture Department is hiring an on-campus Activity Coordinator for our ESL/EFL campus programs. The programs are 3-week courses for approximately 20+ teenage participants from various countries however, this coordinator will be on-campus for the last two weeks of the program only. Learm more about our programs. 

Responsibilities of the Activity Coordinator include: 

  • Creating and implementing afternoon and evening activities each weekday including sports, charades, scavenger hunts, karaoke, cooking class, dance activities, etc. See program calendar for examples
  • Assist with logistics and chaperone students on all mid-week half day excursions and weekend full- day excursions in the Hudson Valley and New York City
  • Assisting with airport transfers to/from JFK Airport (includes driving; staff will meet students at airport upon arrival and help students check in for departure)
  • Participating in weekday morning meetings with teammates and students
  • Work with team to monitor students for the duration of the program, including oversight of students in dorms and while participating in activities
  • Taking photographs throughout the program and submitting them to CCI Greenheart

Requirements: 

  • Experience in planning and leading camp activities
  • Must be resourceful (limited budget available for supplies) and energetic
  • Must be able to live on campus for the duration of the program
  • Native English Speaker
  • Experience leading teambuilding exercises, desirable
  • Experience working with teenagers preferred, experience with exchange students strongly preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Hold a valid US driver’s license (and be willing to transport students when needed)
  • Have experience working in a team environment: should be flexible and have cooperative attitude with fellow team members
  • Must be able to participate in some phone and email planning prior to start date
  • Experience in leading field trips helpful
  • First Aid Certification a plus

Compensation: $500 per week plus room and board

On-campus ESL Teacher - ESL and American Culture Programs

Type: Contract
*Locations: Poughkeepsie, NY July 4 – July 25, 2014 and Healdsburg, CA: July 25-Aug 15, 2014
* This position requires the teacher to live on campus for a full 3 week period

The ESL and American Culture Department is hiring multiple ESL instructions for our ESL/EFL campus programs. Programs are in Poughkeepsie, NY and Healdsburg, CA. The programs are 3-week courses for approximately 20+ teenage participants from various countries. Learn more about our programs. 

Responsibilities of the ESL teacher include: 

  • Planning and teaching 16 hours of ESL lessons per week (weekday mornings and early afternoons)
  • Participating in weekday morning meetings with teammates and students
  • Implement logistics and chaperone students on all mid-week half day excursions and weekend full- day excursions in the Hudson River Valley and New York City or Sonoma County and San Francisco
  • Assisting with airport transfers to/from JFK or SFO Airports (includes driving; staff will meet students at airport upon arrival and help students check in for departure)
  • Work with team to monitor students for the duration of the program, including oversight of students in dorms and while participating in activities
  • Interacting with ESL students outside of the classroom: mealtimes; activities; excursions
  • New York: Participants will arrive July 5 and depart July 27--staff will arrive 1 day early to prepare
  • California: Participants will arrive July 26 and depart Aug 15--staff will arrive 1 day early to prepare

Requirements: 

  • Native English Speaker
  • TEFL or CELTA certified, or state certified with ESL experience
  • Minimum two years of English teaching experience
  • Experience teaching teenagers preferred
  • Must be able to live on campus for the duration of the program
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Hold a valid US driver’s license (and be willing to transport students when needed)
  • Have experience working in a team environment: should be flexible and have cooperative attitude with fellow team members
  • Must be able to participate in some phone and email planning prior to start date

Regional Manager Position at CCI Greenheart - Academic Year Program

Type: Part time salary employee
Hours: 20+ hours/week
Location: Wisconsin - work from home

CCI Greenheart is seeking individuals with previous work experience as a, Area Coordinator, Regional Manager/Director or similar level within a cultural exchange organization. Applicants without prior experience in the industry will not be considered. (If that is the case, please consider CCI Greenheart’s independent contractor Local Coordinator position.)

The Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI) has J-1 designation by the U.S. Department of State to bring international high school students to the United States through our Academic Year Program, to live with volunteer host families. The Regional Manager position is a crucial leadership position within the AYP department, by supervising a team of 10-20 Local Coordinators, and 25-50+ exchange students every year.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

  • Build and supervise a team of Local Coordinators (independent contractors) to facilitate the placing of exchange students with volunteer host families, who will attend high school for a semester or full academic year.
  • Lead the regional team of field staff to ensure timely placement of all students assigned to the region, and that the proper documentation for the placement has been supplied through CCI’s database.
  • Create a development plan for the region, which includes a regional training meeting for LCs.
  • Maintain compliance with Department of State regulations by providing the necessary documentation via the database for all students placed in the region (proper host families, host family information forms and school permission forms, contact logs, etc)
  • Work closely with the staff in the Chicago office through regular email, phone, and skype communication.

Skills: 

  • Must have previous experience working with a cultural exchange organization (J-1 international high school students)
  • Ability to lead and guide a dispersed team
  • Self-motivated, creative and organized
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outgoing personality and enthusiasm for international exchange
  • Excellent computer skills with competence in Microsoft Office Suite, eager to learn and use new technology, previous database skills a plus

Summer Group Coordinator - Short-term Groups and Homestay

Type of Position: Temporary, part-time

On the Group Homestay Program, approximately 10 - 20 international high school students come to the United States for a two to four week period with the goal of improving their English and getting to know American culture. Most groups arrive in summer but planning and recruitment of host families begins 4+ months prior. ESL Student Recruiter - Summer English Academy

The Summer English Academy (SEA) is a unique, three week, summer ESL camp designed exclusively for teenagers, with locations in New York State and Northern California. Student recruiters refer and provide initial screening to potential applicants. Recruiters receive a cash incentive for each student who is accepted and attends the program.

INTERNSHIPS & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES  

Greenheart Transforms Social Media Intern

Type: Unpaid, internship
Reporting: Volunteer Intern reports to Tieg Alexander, Greenheart Transforms Coordinator, Greenheart Transforms
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: : Minimum 3 month commitment, at least one day a week in office (Monday or Friday) and two days a week from home. Each day will consist of a 3 hour block. Schedule is flexible.
Compensation: Unpaid, volunteer position

Purpose of the Internship 

We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic individual to help maintain our social media outlets, research topics for our newsletter, recruit local change-makers for interviews, and conduct research for future events.

Greenheart Transforms assists people in reaching their highest potential through events, workshops and retreats aimed at personal and social transformation.

Internship Description 

  • Leverage social media outlets (particularly Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) to strengthen relationships with past and potential event participants
  • Conduct marketing and logistic research for future events
  • Recruit local innovative leaders and change-makers for interviews or guest blogs
  • Draft compelling blogs, newsletters, and event resources to be distributed to past, present, and potential event participants
  • Assist with other aspects of the program as assigned

Required Skills
