Greenheart for CCI's AYP Participants: High School Spring Break Trips

Are you a CCI high school exchange student ready to make the most out of your year in the United States? Haven't made plans for spring break and have a desire to see more of the U.S.? Want to make life long friends with other exchange students? And join a multinational group of CCI students placed all over the USA in hands on green experiences? Have a homestay experience with local families giving far more than just the tourist view of the location?

Greenheart Spring Break 2010: Portland, Oregon

Portland is in the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. The Pacific Northwest is remarkable because of its diverse geography. The region has some of North America's largest forests and includes several mountain ranges, including the Cascades. Last year, CCI exchange students went snowboarding on Mt. Hood, the largest mountain in the state of Oregon.

Portland is considered one of the most environmentally conscious cities in the U.S. It is known for its unique uses of renewable and non-conventional power and energy sources, innovations in public transportation, and environmental architectural and building standards. During their visit, students experienced what it means to be in a green urban area and learned some tips to take home!

Greenheart Spring Break 2010: Hawaii

CCI students spent the week on Oahu, Hawaii's third largest and most populated island. They tried surfing, sunbathed at Waikiki, took a catamaran cruise, learned all about invasive species and how to plant native trees, went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, and much more!

After going on the GH Spring Break Trip, this student is going to return to her host community and says: "I will use energy in more efficient ways and at my host family's house. I'll teach them several ways to reduce their energy bills. I'll teach them some new things about gardening, because its their main hobby." In her home country she says: "I'll tell my parents to put on solar panels :). I'll make presentations in my school about Hawaiian Farms and plants". - 2008/09 Participant from Russia
