School for Computer Training-Abomey
Project Details
This private school focuses on computer training as essential to the education of its students. With 350 middle school youth attending classes there is a lot of teaching to be done. The school is faced with limited resources and few computers making it difficult to teach everyday lessons.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers are needed to help assist teachers in the classroom and especially to work with the students in computer training. Emphasis is placed on teaching and improving fundamental computer skills according to the student’s age and skill level. There is also the ability to organize recreational and arts activities.
Location
The center is located in Abomey, about 65 miles from Cotonou. All volunteers will be taken to a host family upon arrival and will participate in a three day orientation to Beninois culture and their project.
Accommodations and Meals
Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. Two meals during the week and three on weekends with your host family are included in your stay.
Requirements
Experience or education in counseling, teaching and/or childcare is helpful, but not required. Any volunteers with experience or study in computers and computer training are encouraged to apply. An intermediate level of French is required. French lessons are available prior to the volunteer project for an additional fee.
