Spain

Spaniards are proud of their country and its long and unique history. Spain is an old country, known to early Mediterranean peoples as far back as the Stone Age. Spanish artists such as Picasso, Dali, Velázquez, and Goya have touched and inspired people in all corners of the globe with their creations. Bullfighting is considered an art and is still well loved, while soccer is the most popular sport. Fiestas and Christian holidays are central to Spanish life, as are leisurely meals and long conversations in cafes, restaurants, and at home. You will find Spanish life begins later in the day and ends later at night than is usually typical in the United States. By 11 pm the streets of small towns and large cities alike are still brightly lit and the restaurants and cafes are bustling with people.

Spaniards are typically very warm and welcoming. Children often live with their parents until they marry, so it’s not uncommon to find children in their early twenties still at home. Parents and older, extended family members are well respected. Mealtime is an important place to share daily events and the afternoon meal is the most important part of the day.
