Independent Homestay in Costa Rica (18+)

A homestay program is a wonderful opportunity to experience Costa Rica’s fascinating culture first-hand. With this program, you can sit back, relax and soak it all in without having every moment of your day planned for you.

You will spend most of your time with your family, participating in family activities such as watching a riveting soccer match between the Liga and Saprisa, preparing delicious meals while practicing your language skills, or attending family birthdays and other gatherings. You will be delighted with the warmth and hospitality of the Costa Ricans. Host family placements might occur throughout Costa Rica. Your host family placement will include full board (3 meals per day).

You will also be able to explore your local community. Awaken your taste buds with typical cuisine at one of the local restaurants, learn about the history by visiting the Museum of Gold or Jade, shop at one of the modern malls or pick up some souvenirs at the Plaza de la Politica and La Casona.

Feeling adventurous? If you have some extra time at the end of your program, you can experience some of the things Costa Rica is famous for. Zip through the rainforest canopy on a canopy tour, test your surfing skills at one of the many pristine beaches of the Pacific coast, get your heart racing on a white water rafting tour on Rio Pacuare, or take a hike up one of the 146 volcanos now disguised with thick vegetation and wildlife! No matter how you spend your day, you'll have the time of your life! As the ticos say, Pura Vida, mae!
