High School Abroad (Ages 15-18)

High School Classroom Spending part of your high school years in a country as beautiful as Ecuador will be a once in a life time experience! You will live daily life just as any Ecuadorian teenager would. Enrolled in a local private high school, you will be taking a variety of courses that include math, anatomy, chemistry, history, drawing, and philosophy. Ecuadorian schools have a challenging curriculum and are very much focused on academics. However, you can easily find after school activities both at the school and in the community that may include sports, art, theater, cooking, and much more.

Historic church in Cuenca You may attend high school in the capital city of Quito, colonial city of Cuenca, picturesque and quiet town of Ibarra, or in a small community on the Galapagos Islands. No matter which location you find yourself in, you will be staying with a warm and welcoming host family. Although family size and makeup vary, it is common for a few generations of Ecuadorians to live under one roof. Host parents are excited to have you there, sharing in their culture and helping you to discover their amazing country. You will also gain valuable language skills both through your schoolwork as well as daily interaction in your host community. The Ecuadorian people are very open-minded and will always want to engage in conversation with you.

Language Classes

Included in the program fee is a one week orientation in Quito that includes an introduction to Ecuadorian culture and the school system, a tour around the capital city, as well as fifteen hours of Spanish lessons with a private tutor that will help you to brush up before you head off to your host community to begin your high school experience.
