Chile’s
land mass is a long and narrow strip 2,672 miles long
and only an average of 112 miles wide along the western
coast of South America. Because it covers such a great
distance from north to south, the climate and geography
vary widely, from arid desert in the north to temperate
in the central region, to sub-arctic in the south.
You will find everything from dense forests to lakes,
beautiful sand beaches, volcanoes, and the Andes mountains.
Chileans take advantage of their long coastline to
indulge in a variety of water sports, from swimming
to surfing. Soccer is by far the most popular spectator
sport, followed by basketball.
Chile enjoys a fast-growing economy and the population
is highly educated. Chileans are generally warm and
friendly, though they have a reputation as being slightly
more reserved than other South Americans. They tend
to have a strong sense of national pride and welcome
the opportunity to share their culture and heritage
with foreigners.
