HIV/AIDS Outreach and Hospital Care
Project Details
With only a small staff and a few volunteers, a community outreach effort began in 2001 in order to educate the community on the realities of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis. Since many of the community members have become victims of these deadly diseases, they have been working hard to teach methods of prevention. The project also spends time assisting in the local hospital taking care of patients.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers are needed to help with community education projects raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and how to prevent them. Volunteers are also able to work at the local public hospital where they can assist with patients and help with administrative duties.
Location
The project is located in the town of Tepa in the central region of Ashanti. Volunteers will receive a thorough orientation for a few days in the capital city of Accra upon arrival in Ghana.
Accommodations and Meals
Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. All meals with your host family are included in your stay.
Requirements
It is helpful for volunteers to have previous experience in health care and/or working with HIV/AIDS patients.
