Teaching at Community Resource Center
Project Details
This brand new community health and learning center is a great place for locals to access information and advice on health care, participate in educational workshops, and utilize limited technology. It also houses a pre-school with future plans to build a primary and secondary school, playground and garden. The Center provides enormous benefits for the community in the form of resources previously unobtainable for them.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers will help facilitate discussions addressing issues of health, welfare, and women and youth empowerment. Teaching duties will also include providing computer training for members and language tutoring to English teachers in order to improve their skill sets. Depending upon the current need, volunteers will be asked to help out in many additional areas.
Location
The resource center is located in a smaller village five miles from Tanga, a town located in the northeastern part of Tanzania near the Kenyan border.
Accommodations and Meals
Volunteers will stay in clean hostels located near the project for the duration of the program. Volunteers can also request to stay with a carefully screened host family when available. Breakfast and dinner are included in your stay.
Requirements
There is no language requirement to participate in the program although learning some basic Swahili before you go is helpful! Volunteers should be open to working with all age groups and helping out where needed.
