School for Snake Charmer’s Children in Rajasthan
Snake charmers are a nomadic community who wander to and from city markets and festivals. This ancient profession is handed down from father to son for many generations. By helping to educate the children of this community the school is guiding each one of them down a path to a more promising and sustainable future. It is also just as important to promote education as the most powerful tool at the community’s disposal.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers will help teachers in creating fun and inexpensive lesson plans. Volunteers will educate students on the computer, tutor children who have fallen behind in their studies and help teach children English. Volunteers will educate the children and their families on basic hygiene and the importance of regular health check-ups.
Location
Volunteers will be in the state of Rajasthan, the most often visited region of India.
Orientation
Volunteers will be picked up from the airport in Delhi and stay the first night in a hotel arranged by CCI. Participants will then be transported to Jaipur for the beginning of their orientation. During your four-day orientation you will dine one night with a local, English speaking family, learn about cultural differences, health and safety, local customs and language, as well as any additional information you will need to know for your project. You will also have a guided tour to the Amber Fort with an elephant ride.
Accommodation and Meals
In Rajasthan volunteers will stay at the "base camp." All meals are included at the “base-camps” and are prepared by project staff. There will be many vegetarian options available, and meat is generally prepared 2-3 times per week.

All programs include the following activities:
- Camel Safari
- One week yoga session

Volunteers staying for 8 weeks or more will also go on a tiger safari. All transportation to/from the excursions is included.
