Animal Rescue and Care Program in Jaipur
As Jaipur’s urban areas continue to expand at rapid rates, many of the city’s animals who once called the land home are being neglected, mistreated or infected by disease.
As India’s government struggles to handle the widespread poverty and over-population the country faces, not much attention is given to the well being of these animals. As a volunteer with the program you will help in treating the sick animals, vaccinating the healthy, and controlling the population through sterilization. You will also help the rescued animals find happy homes and work to increase awareness regarding the challenges of keeping animals off the streets.

Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers will tour the city in an animal ambulance which identifies and transports sick and mistreated animals back to the shelter. At the shelter, volunteers will help manage the animal rescue hotline and aid in vaccinating and sterilizing the animals. Volunteers will assist the adoption center staff in finding a nurturing home for the animals and help to create community campaigns spreading the word about the importance of the center and of animal adoption.
Location
The project is based in the culturally rich city of Jaipur. Known as the “pink city” because of the unique stone used for building construction, the city appears both modern and ancient. Here you will certainly encounter exciting local bazaars filled with everything from colorful clothing and hand-made relics.
Orientation
Volunteers will be picked up from the airport in Delhi and stay the first night in a hotel arranged by CCI. The next day volunteers will be taken to Agra for a guided tour of the Taj Mahal. After staying one night in Agra, volunteers are transported to Jaipur for the beginning of their orientation. During orientation you will learn about cultural differences, health and safety, local customs and language, as well as any additional information you will need to know for your project.

Accommodation and Meals
Accommodations are at the local volunteer house known as the “base-camp.” All meals are included at the “base-camps” and are prepared by project staff. There will be many vegetarian options available, and meat is generally prepared 2-3 times per week.
