Elementary School Teaching Assistant

Project Details

This elementary school is comprised of over 400 children; some of them are orphans or come from extremely impoverished families and therefore do not pay school fees while other students come from families that are able to afford the small fees. This financial support helps the entire school function and allows the orphans a chance to receive a quality education.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers are asked to help with teaching English, French or computer skills, after-school tutoring, organizing sports, arts, crafts, and other recreational activities, working in the medical clinic and showing each child the love and support he or she deserves. Volunteer are also encouraged to be creative designing various projects of their own.

Location

This elementary school is located in Kumasi. Volunteers will receive a thorough orientation for a few days in the capital city of Accra upon arrival in Ghana.   

Accommodations and Meals

Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. All meals with your host family are included in your stay.

Requirements

Experience or education in counseling, teaching and/or childcare is helpful, but not required.
