Home for Disabled Adolescents
Project Details
This home provides disabled adolescents with education and recreational activities in order to teach them how to live on their own. Although all residents are mentally or physically disabled, none of them will live indefinitely at the home. Through professional and life-skills workshops, the staff aims to make every adolescent aspire to meet future goals. The staff and volunteers also engage in community outreach to educate society that a disability does not mean that a person cannot live and work on his or her own.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers are needed to help organize recreational activities for the adolescents including sports, games, arts, or music. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own ideas to engage the youth. Other responsibilities can include organizing workshops for youth and community, engaging in outreach efforts in the neighborhood, helping the youth understand everyday activities and working in small groups for academic tutoring.
Location
The home is located in the city of Cordoba, about 10 hours northwest of Buenos Aires. All volunteers will be taken to their host family upon arrival and given an orientation within the first few days.
Accommodations and Meals
Volunteers will stay with carefully screened host families for the duration of the program. Two meals a day with your host family are included in your stay.
**No meals are served on Sundays.
Requirements
Minimum commitment is 12 weeks. Experience or education in counseling, teaching and/or youth work is helpful, but not required. An intermediate level of Spanish is required. Spanish lessons are available prior to the volunteer project in Cordoba for an additional fee.
