Children’s Home in Cordoba
Project Details
Often mistaken for an orphanage, this home was originally founded in 1960 to be for all children who needed a safe place to go and had no where else to turn. It began with only three children and has grown to now permanently house 23 children. Here the children are provided basic necessities and lots of loving care. It is at this center that the children have found the support they deserve and the guidance that will allow them to grow into healthy adults.
Volunteer Responsibilities
Volunteers will help the children with their daily activities including picking out clothes, brushing teeth, preparing meals, and assigned chores. Each volunteer will also be able to organize recreational and arts activities, teach basic English, and help the older students with homework assignments.
Location
The home is located in La Cumbre, a suburb of Cordoba. All volunteers will be taken to their host family upon arrival and given an orientation within the first few days.
Accommodations and Meals
Volunteers will stay on site for the duration of the program. Two meals a day are included in your stay.
**No meals are served on Sundays.
Requirements
Minimum commitment is 8 weeks. Experience or education in counseling, teaching and/or childcare is helpful, but not required. An intermediate level of Spanish is required. Spanish lessons are available prior to the volunteer project in Cordoba for an additional fee.
