High School in Spain (15-18)

High School in Spain

For high school students studying Spanish, an academic program in Spain is the perfect opportunity to improve their language skills and experience this beautiful country and its vibrant culture first-hand.

High School

You will attend a public high school and will usually be placed at the junior year level. You can choose between a science or a humanities set curriculum, which contains eight core subjects. Spanish schools are academically challenging and the lecture format is most common. Schools primarily focus on academics, so sports and cultural activities are usually found outside the school. You may wish to join a local drama or theater group or any of the numerous sports clubs that are located within your community.

Culture

It’s common for Spanish teens to attend lectures, concerts, and sporting events outside of school. You will find Spanish life begins later in the day and ends later at night than is usually typical in the United States. It is not uncommon for teens to stay out late on weekends. With your new Spanish friends, you will probably spend a great deal of time going to movies and “hanging out” in cafes to talk.

Accommodation

Host family placements are made throughout Spain. Whether you live near Oviedo, Seville, on the Canary Islands or someplace else in Spain, family life will play a large role in your experience abroad.

High School in SpainLanguage Exchange
CCI's host families in Spain are volunteers with a genuine desire to receive an international student as a new member of their family. The families receive no monetary compensation. We ask our exchange students in Spain to share English skills with them by speaking in English with members of the host family for three to five hours per week. The family will recognize that the student is in Spain primarily to learn Spanish and as such will not expect more than a few hours of English to be shared each week. Your willingness to share your language and culture is an important part of this program for a successful exchange.
