Argentines place a high value on education and the country’s literacy rate is among the highest in South America. The school year begins in late February and runs through November. Students choose from four main “tracks:” Economics, Humanities, Biological Sciences, or the Arts. After school many Argentine teens pursue extracurricular interests such as dance, sports and clubs.

Family life
Close relationships among friends and family are a priority, and most Argentines spend a great deal of time entertaining in their homes. As in many western European countries, schools and shops still close at midday so that families can come together for the noon meal.
